Aomori is Japan's northernmost prefecture on Honshu island, famous for its massive apple orchards and the massive Nebuta Matsuri festival in August, where giant illuminated floats parade through Aomori City. Winters are snowy and cold (around 30°F/-1°C on average), perfect for skiing at Hakkoda Mountains or soaking in hot springs like Sukayu Onsen. Summers are mild and humid (mid-70s°F/24°C), ideal for hiking around Lake Towada's caldera or picking your own apples at farms near Hirosaki Park.
